Soliloquy:
The Sound Portal, designed by ARUP in association with Sound & Music, is a dedicated listening ambisonic listening room which was erected in Trafalgar Square.
Soliloquy: Ambisonic Composition:
Steam train frenetics, wheezing pipe organs, pet-shop cacophony and rolling shanties.
The work takes advantage of the unique potentials of Ambisonic recording to weave a thread of music and song through diverse sound environments.
Engulfing the listener in a shifting collage of contexts, references and resonances. The piece is around 35min in duration.(Ambisonics is a kind of advanced surround sound.)
“The tenth anniversary of the London Design Festival kicks off with this sound installation located in Trafalgar Square. Enter the rubberised cube in the middle of the square and you’ll find yourself isolated from the capital’s hubbub in a soundproof cocoon where you will be treated to a composition from five innovative sound artists over the course of five days” TimeOut.
